Maidservant

MaidservantFour days after I finished my eighth and final semester and left China, Kristin finally emailed and asked me where I was. When I replied that I had just arrived in the southeast Asian city that she knows well, she said she had been wrong, I had been right; she cannot tolerate the toxic air pollution in China, is very sick, and asked me to evacuate her to where I was. She said she has no money as she hadn't been paid yet, and that if I evacuate her, she will serve me as my "maidservant."

I neither wanted nor needed a maidservant, which is a female slave: "Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar" (Genesis 16:1). But Kristin was showing contrition by calling herself a maidservant, had admitted her fault, was sick, and needed to be evacuated, so I flew her out to where I was.

She arrived very sick and spent time visiting the hospital for treatments. As she recovered, things were actually nice for a couple of weeks and I thought I had my old Kristin back.

Then the alter with the borderline personality disorder resurfaced and began to again demand that I marry her. I reminded her that she had said that she wanted to be my maidservant, not my wife, while asking to be evacuated, and that she had said our relationship is over even before she flew back to China, so she had even less right to demand marriage now. She replied that since I had said that I forgave her, I cannot hold her to something that I already had forgiven.

I sat her down and asked her what she knows about borderline personality disorder. She immediately became defensive, angry, and said she knows nothing about it.

If she knows nothing about borderline personality disorder, then why is she so defensive and angry about something that she knows nothing about? And why is she so opposed to learning about something that she knows nothing about, to see if whether or not she is suffering from it?
